Boyd is Magnificent As Playoffs Loom in Rocky Top

The final week of the regular season saw some serious action
at the Pilot Rocky Top High School Fall League. Some breakout performances coupled
with the playoff schedule made this one of the best weeks to date.

 

Team Kimber 78

Team Pierson 59

 

Robert Boyd (Fulton) was simply a
man among the boys. The rising senior dropped 29 points and had numerous steals
to lead Team Kimber (3-0) past Team Pierson (2-1) 78-59 and in the process
secure the top seed in the Houston Division with the playoffs looming on the 19th.

Solid team play helped Kimber with Phillip Stanford (Knoxville West) adding
16, Reggie Garrett (Fulton) getting 15 and Terry Roberts (Gibbs) finishing with
12.

 

Lester Wilson
(Carter)
led all scorers with 32 and Dominic
Ratliff (Hardin Valley)
chipped in with 10.

 

Team Pierson also captured the top spot in the King Division
and will tangle with Team Kimber on the 19th at Alcoa.

 

 

Team McNeeley 62

Team Benjamin 55

 

Micah Ballard
(William Blount)
returned from a mysterious toe injury to lead Team
McNeeley (2-1) with 17 as they slid past Team Benjamin (1-2) 62-55.

 

Joining Ballard in the scoring column, Logan Sharp (Alcoa) sank 16 and Cameron
Langley (Maryville)
finished with 11.

 

 
Lonnie McClanahan (Oak Ridge) led Team Benjamin with 15; Mason
Fox (Stone Memorial)
added 12.

 

Team McNeeley finishes second in the Ellis Division and will
tangle with Team Buckner on the 19th. Team Benjamin will battle Team
Laverdiere also on the 19th at Alcoa.

 

 

Team Buckner 51

Team Laverdiere 43

 

Andy Farmer
(Grainger) and Tyler Smith (Anderson
County)
scored 13 and
10 respectively to lead Team Buckner to their first victory of the season past
Team Laverdiere 51-43.

 

The win gave Buckner the second place slot in the Grunfeld
Division and they will tussle with Team McNeeley on September 19th at
Alcoa.

Tanner Torres (Anderson County) led all scorers with 17 for
Team Laverdiere, who finished with an identical record to Buckner but lost the
head to head match-up. Laverdiere will battle Team Benjamin on the 19th.

 

 

Team Watts 67

Team Hunley 45

 

Galen Campbell (Fulton) kept a tight
grip on the scoring championship as he dangled 32 large to lead a shorthanded
Team Watts past Team Hunley 67-45. Campbell
was magnificent scoring from inside and out. Darius Gallaher (Harriman) added 13 in the win. Team Watts takes the second place slot in the Houston Division
and will tangle with their arch-rival Team Naler on September 19th at
Alcoa.

 

Landon Hunley
(Farragut)
played an outstanding contest finishing with 18 points leading
Team Hunley. Taylor Broussard (Catholic)
added 11 while Tucker Haynes (Maryville) finished
with 10.  

 

Team Hunley will tangle with Team Johnson in the opening
game on the 19th.

 

 

 

Team Stewart 80

Team Brown 68

 

C.J. Alred (Clinton) led a bevy
of double digit scorers with 21 helping lead Team Stewart past Team Brown 80-68
and in the process capturing the top spot in the Ellis Division.

 

Cory Billingsley
(Sweetwater) and David Lee Haskins (Loudon)
both finished with 15, while Marquis Wall (Gatlinburg-Pittman) and Mykal
Titlow (Greenback)
finished with 14 and 12 respectively for the victors.

 

Austin Gardner (Morristown East) led Team Brown with 18 and Ben Cave (Pigeon Forge) added 17 in the loss. Jose Agosto (Gatlinburg-Pittman), with
14, and Jermaine Haney (Cocke County), with
10 closed out the scoring for Team Brown, which also captured the top spot in
the Grunfeld Division and will get another shot at Team Stewart with a 1st
place tangle on the 19th at Alcoa.

 

 

Team Naler 78

Team Johnson 57

 

Matt Cox (Catholic) twisted
the twine for 21 points and helped lead Team Naler past Team Johnson 78-57 in
the final contest of the day. Cox got plenty of help from J.P. Burris (Maryville), who
finished with 13, and Linwood Holloway (Knoxville Central), who
added 11.

 

Team Naler grabs the second spot in the King Division and
will battle Team Watts on the 19th.

 

Devin Jackson (Knoxville West) scored
20 for Team Johnson in the losing effort. Ben
Arnold (Cumberland Gap)
added 10.

 

Team Johnson will tangle with Team Hunley in the opening
contest on September 19th at Alcoa.
