Augusta in July sounds like a very hot proposition.

Even hotter when you got your hoop on.

Tarius Johnson (Liberty Tech) stole the spotlight on day one of the Peach State Classic with a monsterous 32 point performance in front of a liteney of coaches. The talented 6'4 wing showed off his new and improved jumper to go along with that athletic grace to the hoop.

Demarius Smith (Kenwood) brought his A game to the Peach State as well with some resounding dunks while running the show for the Ballerz from the lead guard spot.

Cordaro Williams (Liberty Tech) finished with a double/double and Anthony Green (Manassas) was lauded as a standout from the day one finish.

Over in the 16 and under division the Knoxville Panthers almost made their day a 2-0 one, but came up short on some foul shots in the final seconds against a very good Smyrna Stars squad 77-76. Dustin Clark (Hampton), a newcomer from North Carolina way, led the Panthers with 21 points. Skyler Brown (Seymour) finished with 19, Cory Billingsley (Sweetwater) added 13 and Darrius Gallaher (Harriman) closed with 11.

In the second game, Preston Vaught (Science Hill) dazzled with 16 points and snared 11 caroms to lead the Panthers to a solid 69-64 victory. Dustin Clark (Hampton) finished with 16, while Skyler Brown (Seymour) achieved the double/double with 15 and 10. Cory Billingsly (Sweetwater) notched 13 in the win.
