What an unfortunate call and what a crazy way to end a very productive weekend at the single best tournament on the planet.
Team Penny rode the hot hand of KeVaughn Allen (Arkansas) to a late 83 all tie with the legendary Playaz of New Jersey at the finals of the prestigious Nike Peach Jam in Augusta.
Dominance is a word thrown around a little too much these days.
How about 17 straight wins including three championships, the Spring Classic in 2013, the Kentucky Hoopfest in 2013 and now the Kentucky Hoopfest in 2014. Now that is real dominance.
Week #2 of the “live period” saw tournaments all over the Southeast with coaches making their way from Augusta to Atlanta to Louisville and several stops in between.
In Atlanta the Summer Slam II event had a nice taste of Tennessee with several teams winning the championships in their various brackets and age groupings.
Chattanooga Elite 16 and under marched into the DII AAU National Tournament with something to prove.
By my calculations they did just that.
Team Penny behind 14 points and 7 caroms from D.J. Jackson (Fayette-Ware) and 13 points from Rodarious Washington (Memphis East) defeated the Arkansas Wings Elite 53-41 to bring home the big trophy as the national champions of the 15 and under division at the AAU Nationals in Little Rock.
