Memorial Day always brings a host of events throughout the country, while I was watching in Atlanta a pair of events featuring Tennessee teams made some headlines up North.
In Lexington, The Wildcat Memorial Day Showdown saw the 15U EOTO crew blast the Shining Stars 60-38 and bring home the Gold for the Volunteer state.
Silas Clark (Cumberland County) led the scoring in the title game with 14 followed by Kajuan Hale (Austin East) with 12, Jack Sampayrac (Knoxville Catholic) with 11 and Caleb Martin (Oak Ridge) with 10.
Clark topped the scoring for EOTO throughout the weekend including a 22 point effort in a big win over the Cam Hopkins All-Stars in the semi-finals. Sampayrac added 15 in the same contest while Hale was outstanding throughout averaging 14 per game and double digit assists as well.
Coaches were quick to mention the contributions of Jacques Booker (Fulton) who was a monster on the boards the entire weekend.
Continuing up North, the Nashville Celtics 16U had themselves a fine showing in the Chicago Memorial Day Classic finishing in the final four losing to the Wisconsin Playground Warriors in the semis.
John Carter (Summit) was a welcome addition for the Celtics with his scoring and shooting prowess. Isaiah Crawley (Ripley) averaged a double/double for the event and proved to be a tough match-up for everyone.
David Ivy (Blackman) was solid scoring around 10 per game and snatching caroms at a 7 per contest clip. Geordan Reed (Jackson Southside) had a strong tournament finishing as one of the Celtics top scorers at 13 per game.
Mike Parker (Maplewood) continues to make things happen from the lead guard position controlling the tempo while scoring around 9 per game and getting his mates good looks to the tune of 8 assists per contest.
Coaches were quick to applaud the contributions of Brice Williams (Blackman) and David Murray (Liberty Tech).
Everybody was headed to Court #1.
Nike Memorial Day proved to be the place to be if your from Tennessee as success was felt all around the 16 and under division.
The Nike Memorial Day tournament has always been one of the top event during the Memorial Day holiday weekend. This year was no exception. Teams from all over Tennessee made their way to Atlanta to compete in the event in all age groups.
